Amati offers the best of international shipping. We supply bespoke packaging and competitive shipping for items as small as one precious bow to a newly purchased collection of instruments.

We ship through the international couriers, DHL, who have proven to be very reliable. We always choose the cheapest quotation for your sake. We aim to deliver the carefully packed instruments to our shippers a fortnight after the end of the auction.

If you request that Amati organise the shipping, we pack your purchases and arrange for shipping. We always consider the safety of the instruments. We have a range of specifically made, incredibly strong, shipping boxes designed to house various quantities of instruments, all of which minimise the shipping cost to you.

Shipping to you

If you win the bidding on your chosen lots, we can arrange for them to be shipped to you. Alternatively, you could attend the London collection day to pick up your purchases in person.

5 instruments or fewer

If you buy up to 5 stringed instruments, we will pack each one in a purpose-built box, The Amati Box, which has been proven to be strong and safe. Since we know its size and weight, we can give you a quotation immediately.

Violins and smaller violas are packed in these boxes, which are designed so that they do not require any packing pellets. Each violin is wrapped a 100% cotton bag to protect the varnish, and bridges are always lowered, and the string tension relieved, to protect the instruments from stress.

6 instruments or more

If you bought six or more lots, the instruments are individually wrapped in tissue paper and bubble wrap before being packed. The bridge of each instrument will be lowered and the string tension released. The instruments are then packed in larger boxes with environmentally friendly, loose-fill pellets (made from starch and completely biodegradable).

In this case, each shipment is bespoke and is packed before we send the shipping quotation to you on your auction invoice. We usually try to get these bespoke shipments packed within five working days from the end of the auction.

Bows

Bows are packed in tissue paper before being put in a foam tube. They are then wrapped in bubblewrap. Wooden splints are taped to the side of the bubblewrap. The whole package is then put in cardboard tubes.

Shipping to us

If you have decided to sell your instrument with Amati, we can help you organise the shipping from your house to safe storage in our offices.

Amati can send you our bespoke boxes and full instructions so that you can ship your instruments safely.

You can either use your own shipping agents, in which case, you would only be invoiced for the packing materials, or request us to organise the shipping. We would, of course, always get the best possible price and the best standard of shipping for you, and let you know what the costs will be before shipping commences.

When the instruments arrive at Amati, all instruments, bows, cases and certificates are checked into the office and labeled with client information. Instruments are safely stored in cork-lined racks.

We are a limited and VAT registered company. Insurance is provided by Lark (Group) Insurance who specialise in musical instrument cover.
