ROBERTS, Allen Neubold Born 1866 Birmingham UK, died 1929 Southern Pines, North Carolina USA. Emigrated to the USA as a child. Apprenticed to Clark Powers in Boston 1889. Worked for John Gould in New York and the Elias Howe Company in Boston 1890. Subsequently head of the violin department of C. V. Story in Boston. Established independently in Southern Pines from 1907. Guarneri model; first example dated 1890. Over 270 completed. Golden-orange spirit varnish of his own formulation. Fine workmanship. No. 244.
