VITÁCEK, Yevgeny Franzevich Born 1889 Jöhstadt Germany, died 1946 Moscow Russia. Pupil of F. Spidlen in Kiev. Moved to Moscow 1898. Established independently 1899-1904. Travelled extensively looking at instruments throughout Europe and in 1918 was invited to found the Russian School for Violin Making in Moscow. Appointed luthier to the Moscow conservatoire, and keeper of the Russian State Instrument Collection. Made over 400 instruments. Generally low-arched Stradivari and Guarneri models.
