YAROVOI, Denis Wladimirowich Born 1922 Trieste Italy, Worked from 1938 Moscow Russia. Violinist. Suffered an injury to his hand and took up making with A. Monterumici in Bologna. Later worked with G. Fiorini in Munich. Moved to Moscow and employed by G. Morosov, S. Dobrov and T. Podgorny. Highly prolific maker and theorist. His ideas on plate tuning, using complex patterns of tap-tones, were the subject of several papers written by him in Russian, summarised and translated as ‘Antonio Stradivari, what did he know?’ (Taynton Press, Oxford, 1989), which had considerable influence on many makers.
