Simon (II) Born 1662, Worked circa. 1700-1730 Friedenweiler Germany. Son of Frantz , nephew of Johann Straub above. Typical Alemannische (Black Forest) work. High, full arch, frequently extravagant decorative purfling in geometrical and heart shapes, front and back. Long, stiffly upright soundholes, wings cut through in the conventional way, unlike other Allemannische makers. Pardessus de viole of 1706 in the Berlin Museum, large violin of 1712 in the Museum of Geneva with carved lion head, and a five-string violin-shaped double bass of 1725 in the Museum of Basle.
