STROBL, Johann (Jan) (II) Born 1700 Vils Austria, died 1753 Olomouc (Olmutz) Czech Republic. Son of Johann Strobl (I), above. Thought to have been a pupil of J. Hellmer in Prague. Established independently in Olomouc from 1724. Work rarely encountered, although he seems to have been a prolific maker of harps, viols, violas, and various other stringed instruments. Tyrolean model typical of the Vienna school with fine golden-yellow and red-brown varnish. Johann Strobl / Lauten und Geigen / macher in Olmutz 1738 [Pilar]
