John Dilworth

SULOT (SULEAU), Nicolas Worked circa. 1830-1850 Dijon & Paris France. Violinist who devised several ideas for ‘improving’ violins with undulating surfaces on table and ribs which he called ‘violon d’écho’. Had a number of instruments, including cello and double bass, made in this way by H. C. Lapostolet in Dijon. Examples still held in the Musical Instruments Museum, Brussels and the Dijon Conservatoire.
