VERBEECK, Gijsbert Harmens Born 1642, died 1717 Amsterdam Netherlands. Rarely encountered maker. Considered a pupil of Jacobs. Married into the Willems family 1669. Established in Sint Anthoniebreestraat and from 1714 in Warmoesstraat. Very fine work typical of the Amsterdam school. Large Amati form. Rich golden-brown varnish. Cleanly cut and well-placed soundholes. Scroll with rather heavy chamfer, but well-organised and impressive work. Gysbert Verbeek / me fecit in Amsterdam / Ao.168..
