VOEL (VOLL), E. Worked circa. 1840-1855 Mainz Germany. Vannes cites one violin with high arch and yellow and red varnish. Henley describes good Stradivari copies with large wide soundholes, and gives the same label and date: E. Voel Geigenmacher / in Mainz. 1847

Cecie Stainer

A maker in Mayence about 1840. His instruments follow the Stradivari more than the German pattern ; the sound-holes are large, the varnish a red-brown colour, the head is well cut, the general workmanship good.

Excellent workmanship, scroll well cut. Stradivari model. The character of work is not unlike that of Bernard Fendt.

Willibald Leo Lütgendorff
