Biographies

John Dilworth

WALTHER, Jean Baptiste Worked circa. 1727 The Hague Netherlands, & from c.1775 Paris France. The long working period suggests two makers, father and son, or perhaps some confusion with Jean Wolters who was established in rue St Antoine in 1750. Worked at The Hague 1726-1735. One violin in the Selhof Inventory cited by Vannes signed and dated ‘The Hague 1727’. Subsequently documented and established in the rue Coquillière, Paris 1775. Later in rue St Denis 1776-1777, rue Quincampoix 1779, and rue Bourbon 1783-1799. Highly arched instruments, coarse work. Jean-Bapt. Walther, La Haye, 1727 [Vannes]
