Dante & Alfredo Guastalla (Fratelli Guastalla)
Dante and Alfredo Guastalla were Italian violin makers active in Reggiolo, in the province of Reggio Emilia. The brothers were associated with the violin-making tradition of Stefano Scarampella and produced violins, violas, cellos and double basses during the 20th century.

Fratelli Guastalla
Dante Guastalla was born in Reggiolo in 1893 and Alfredo in 1898. Dante initially worked independently before being joined by his younger brother, and the two subsequently produced instruments both jointly and separately. Their instruments were based on a variety of classical Italian models, including those of Stradivari, Guarneri and Balestrieri, as well as their own interpretations.
Instruments made jointly by the brothers are commonly labelled “Fratelli Guastalla”, while examples made individually may bear the name of Dante or Alfredo Guastalla. Their work reflects the Reggiolo and Mantuan violin-making traditions, with the influence of Scarampella particularly evident in some examples.
Dante Guastalla died in 1971 and Alfredo Guastalla died in 1987.
