Greetings from St. Andrews

I was at University here a thousand years ago and once or twice a year I drop off Sarah before scuttling around Scotland on the hunt for whisky.
And violins.
In the meantime, working at double speed, the team have launched our May Amati Affordable Auction. This is another two day auction and I am not sure whom to thank more, the staff for working stupid hours to get it all online, or you the reader for taking the time to glide through the catalogue.
The size of the auctions of late – both January and March have been two days or, as one colleague tellingly calls them ‘double auctions’ – is a high quality problem to have, but it has been a problem. Put bluntly, that is a lot of photographs, condition reports and general administration to put on a team. We even have a spare camera and a replacement shutter waiting in the wings in case something goes wrong in the run up to launch.
However, we also have something better than a spare shutter – or camera – we have a new member of the team, Harris. Harris is working with the team, taking on some of the strain of packing and admin. I have decided to dislike him because he is much younger than I am and has an enviable amount of hair. He does seem to be doing a good job though, so if you are calling up hoping to get the dream team but get Harris instead, I hope you will be happy.
In the meantime, I am off for a walk on the beach after a gruelling few weeks. Tomorrow is another (valuation) day…
