Maker Overview
John Hoddinott (c. mid-20th century – early 1980s) was an English violin and viola maker based in Corfe Mullen, near Wimborne, Dorset. Active mainly during the 1950s to 1970s, he produced a number of well-crafted string instruments, often recognized for their distinctive yellow varnish. Some of his violas and violins have appeared in auctions and specialist sales, where they are appreciated for their workmanship and tonal qualities. Hoddinott is also known to have sold instruments through Jack Stott, a dealer in the region. He remained active until his death in the early 1980s.
