John Dilworth

HARE, Elizabeth (I) Worked circa. 1700-1734, died 1741 London UK. Wife of John Hare, below. Succeeded to the business after his death in 1725. Her son, Joseph, below, established himself in his own workshop in Birchin Lane from 1728. Elizabeth took on as her assistant John Simpson, who in turn took over after her death in 1741. The business he subsequently ran, ‘from the Widow Hare’s in Cornhill’, became Puttick & Simpson, and eventually the present day Bonham’s Auction House. Elizabeth’s trade was in general musical accessories and there is no record of instruments signed or labelled by her. [BVMA]
