Maker Overview
Michele Zubenko was born in Moscow, Russia, in 1970. At the age of fourteen he began learning the art of violin making in the workshop of his father, Andrea Zubenko, an established Moscow luthier. This early apprenticeship provided him with a solid foundation in traditional hand craftsmanship and the construction of bowed string instruments.
In 1997, Zubenko moved to Cremona, Italy, to study at the International School of Violin Making. Alongside his formal studies, he spent several years refining his technique in the workshop of the distinguished master Gio Batta Morassi, whose guidance helped shape his approach to the Cremonese tradition.
Zubenko has participated in international violin-making competitions, including the Henryk Wieniawski Competition in PoznaĆ and the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, receiving notable recognition for his work. Today he lives and works in the province of Cremona, where he builds violins, violas, and cellos entirely by hand, combining the precision of his Russian training with the aesthetic and acoustic principles of the classical Cremonese school. He is a member of the Italian Violinmaking Association (A.L.I.).
