Mario Salustri
Maker Overview
Mario Salustri (1933–2012) was an Italian violin maker active in Albano Laziale, near Rome. He belonged to the modern Roman school of violin making and worked independently, producing violins, violas, and cellos in the second half of the 20th century. Instruments are typically labelled “M. Salustri Liutaio in Albano Laziale.”
Salustri’s instruments reflect the Italian hand-making tradition of the post-war period, with individual workmanship, strong personal character, and models influenced by the classical Italian makers. His surviving instruments are recognised for their distinctive craftsmanship and tonal qualities.
He worked for much of his career in Albano Laziale and is regarded as a representative figure of the late 20th-century Roman violin-making tradition.
