Mauro Lunati

Maker Overview

Mauro Lunati is an Italian violin maker based in Genoa. He built his first violin in 1981 and has since devoted his work to the construction of violins, violas, and cellos, with a particular emphasis on the acoustical properties of stringed instruments. His research has focused on plate tuning, the relationship between the corpus and enclosed air volume, and the careful selection and seasoning of tonewoods.

Working from his workshop in the historic centre of Genoa, Lunati combines traditional Italian craftsmanship with a methodical approach to sound production. His instruments have been played and endorsed by professional musicians, including members of the orchestras of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and the Teatro Regio in Turin.
