Alban Hammig

HAMMIG, Alban (1873–1936) German bow maker of the Markneukirchen school. Member of the renowned Hammig family of Saxon instrument makers. Active during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, he produced fine violin, viola and cello bows in the German tradition, influenced by the great French bow makers. His work is characterised by careful craftsmanship, well-modelled heads, refined fittings and quality materials. Alban Hammig represents the skilled family workshop tradition of Markneukirchen, one of the most important centres of European bow making.
