Life

American violin, viola and cello maker. Began his violin-making career in 1958 and subsequently established workshops in Dallas, Texas and Taos, New Mexico. During approximately fifty years of active making he produced 178 instruments, including 62 violins, 60 violas and 56 cellos. His instruments, made largely to his own models, were played by musicians in major orchestras and ensembles internationally. He also taught and influenced a number of later American makers. Carón was an important figure in twentieth-century American violin making, particularly in the Southwest.
