John Dilworth

LIGHT, Edward Worked circa. 1780-1820 London UK. Harpist to the Princess of Wales. Originator of the ‘dital harp’ in 1798 and a lute-guitar in 1816. Established in Foley Place, later Marylebone Street. Violins sold under his label the work of anonymous trade workers. Dital harp in the Metropolitan Museum, New York.

William Meredith Morris

A lute and harp maker. He made a few violins also. One of these, indifferently made, had the following label : —

EDWARD LIGHT, MAKER, LONDON, 1797

A beautiful arch-lute was found to be inscribed “479 Light, Foley Place, London.”

Er wohnte Foley Place und ist nur als Erfinder einer Harfenlaute bekannt geworden. Eine solche befindet sich in der Crosby-Brown- Collection (Metrop. Museum of Art in New-York) No. 1076. Dieselbe Sammlung besitzt ausserdem eine Harfenguitarre von ihm (No. 1010). Eine Laute in der Sammlung Gautier.
