NIEDT, Karl Born 1872 Schweinfurt, died 1950 Würzburg Germany. Pupil of E. F. Reichel in Markneukirchen from 1887. Established independently in Würzburg from 1897. Prolific maker. Early work consists of unrefined copies of usual Tyrolean and Italian models, but gradually refined his production towards Vuillaume-like copies of Stradivari and Guarneri, with shaded varnish.
