Biographies
John Dilworth
ALBERT, John Born circa. 1809 Freiburg Germany, died 1887 Philadelphia USA. Practiced law in Germany. Emigrated to the USA in 1848, working in New York. Apprenticed with Matthias Keller in Philadelphia, and succeeded to his business in 1857. Created the American Star Violin Company, a mass manufacturer of quality violins later inherited by his son Eugene John Albert, above. Guarneri models. Fine work with golden-brown spirit varnish, often using American maple. Signed directly on the back interior, or with handwritten labels.
