Pupil of V. de Zorzi. Worked for Paoletti Vezio before establishing his own business in via Tito Speri, Florence. Emigrated to Chicago 1947 where he worked for Kagan & Gaines. Moved to Weisshaar in Los Angeles c.1950 and finally established on his own in Monterey Park from 1963. — John Dilworth

BATELLI, Alfio Born 1903 Chianciano, Sienna Italy, died 1977 Monterey Park, California USA. Pupil of V. de Zorzi. Worked for Paoletti Vezio before establishing his own business in via Tito Speri, Florence. Emigrated to Chicago 1947 where he worked for Kagan & Gaines. Moved to Weisshaar in Los Angeles c.1950 and finally established on his own in Monterey Park from 1963. Chiefly occupied as a repairer in the US. Over 300 violins, violas, and cellos made in Florence are on classical models with orange to red-brown varnish. Workmanship variable, but with great character. Branded and inscribed internally.
