BELLAROSA, Vittorio Born 1907, died 1979 Naples Italy. Son of Riccardo Bellarosa, above. Studied with Vito Vitantonio in Rotello 1922, for six months in Mittenwald 1925, and with Rodolfo Fredi in Rome. Made 50 violins before 1927. Briefly attempted to establish a workshop in Milan with his brother Ettore. Returned finally to Naples just prior to 1930. Completed over 1,000 instruments, almost entirely violins, and all but a very few copies of Gagliano, and labelled as such. Introduced his own label from c.1945. Carried out varnishing work for G. Pistucchi, and purchased his stock and equipment after his death in 1955. Orange or red-brown varnish, both oil and spirit based. Later instruments branded with two sea-horses, one either side of the endpin, up until 1954. Some violas known, and three double basses, but no cellos. Effectively the last maker of the true Neapolitan school. Vittorio Bellarosa / Napoli Anno 1950 / Via Michele Cammarano N.10 Vittorio BellarosaLiutaio / Unico allievo del Mo. Liutaio / Cav.
