John Dilworth

BODIO, Giovanni Battista Born 1774, died 1849 Venice Italy. Son of one of the leading Venetian violin players of the time, also named Giobatta Bodio. Possibly a pupil of his uncle Giuseppe, below. Worked from his father’s house in Campo San Polo, moving to 338 Fondamenta Condulmer after his death in 1826. Almost all his work is dated prior to 1835, but changes in the taxation at this time may have forced him to back-date subsequent productions. Very distinctive, not to say ugly models; several contralto-sized violas and cellos attributed to him with particularly clumsy proportions. Arching low but deeply hollowed at the edges.
