BURKHARDT, Emil Born 1871 Annaberg, died 1955 Eisenach Germany. Pupil of Meisel in Klingenthal, then employed by Glasel in Markneukirchen and in 1890 by Hammig in Dresden. Later worked for Beyer before establishing his own shop in Kötzschenbroda. Resident in Eisenach from 1901 to his death. Appointed maker to the Grand Duke of Sachsen-Weimar 1909. Fine work on classical models. Also produced various eccentricities such as a patent peg system and a radical new instrument designed to be plucked or bowed with equal facility.
