Giuseppe Cavaleri
Genoa, worked 1732–1747
A follower of Calcanius with a reasonably refined technique, working on a loosely Amatisé model. Like many Genoese makers he used modest materials, often plain wood and sometimes unusual species. Flat arched with deep edge fluting. Charming to look at but not always capable of a full sound. — John Dilworth

CAVALERI, Giuseppe Worked circa. 1732-1747 Genoa Italy. A follower of Calcanius with a reasonably refined technique, working on a loosely Amatisé model. Like many Genoese makers he used modest materials, often plain wood and sometimes unusual species. Flat arched with deep edge fluting. Charming to look at but not always capable of a full sound. Long stiff soundholes, quite close-set. Unbalanced scroll. Fine soft golden-brown varnish. Violas very worthwhile, made on an excellent contralto form. Joseph Cavalerifecit / Genuae anno salutis 1745

Man kennt Geigen von ihm; wenn sie nur selten vorkommen, so liegt es
daran, dass die Händler seine Arbeiten gerne mit berühmteren Namen versehen
haben.
