Maker Overview
Stefano Conia (II) – “Il Giovane” (b. 1973) is an Italian violin maker based in Cremona and the son of Stefano Conia (I). He represents the third generation of the Conia family of violin makers, following his grandfather István Kónya, a Hungarian maker, and his father, who established himself as a respected Cremonese luthier.
Conia began making instruments at an early age and completed his studies at the International School of Violin Making in Cremona, where he received the Walter Stauffer scholarship. He opened his own workshop in Cremona in 1994, producing violins, violas, and cellos inspired by the classical Cremonese masters while developing his own models.
His instruments are characterised by careful workmanship, classical proportions, selected materials, and a warm, powerful tonal quality. He has received recognition in international violin-making competitions, including awards at Bagnacavallo, Baveno, and the Cremona Triennale.
