Couesnon
Couesnon was a major French instrument manufacturer active from the late 19th to mid-20th century. Originally focused on brass and woodwinds, the company expanded into stringed instruments around 1885, establishing production in both Paris and Mirecourt. Under Amédée Couesnon, the firm absorbed the respected Bernardel workshop in 1913 to boost its string instrument quality. Couesnon violins were factory-made, often modeled after classical Italian designs, and targeted a broad market alongside competitors like J.T.L. and Laberte. Quality varied by model, but many offer solid craftsmanship typical of Mirecourt industrial production.
