John Dilworth

DAVID mid 18th century Paris France. Many sources indicate that this was an active maker, but Vannes considers it to be a misunderstanding of the common dedication to the biblical King David on the labels of instruments made by Harmond, Bertet, Thibout, Snoeck, and even Vuillaume. Nothing formally attributed to ‘David’ can be traced.

Cecie Stainer

A contemporary of Pierray. Was working in Paris about 1730, and supplied the orchestra of Louis XVI. with instruments; his workmanship, however, was poor.

Nach Vidal u. A. ein Zeitgenosse ven Pierray; Grillet erwähnt nur den
Namen und das Jahr; nach Hart »Hoflautenmacher Louis’ XVI.«, nach Anderen
»Lieferant der Hofmusik«. Übereinstimmend wird seine Arbeit als gewöhnlich
bezeichnet. Da die Quelle nicht angegeben wird, aus der diese Angaben geschöpft
sind, und da mir nie Arbeiten von der Hand dieses David vorgekommen
sind, liegt möglicher Weise eine missverständliche Auffassung der Firma »Au
roy David«, die ja vielfach gebraucht wurde, vor. »Au roy« wurde vielleicht
auf Louis XVI. bezogen und »David« als Name gelesen.
