A maker in Altenburg, 1778. His double-basses are especially valued, and are considered to be some of the best ever made in Germany ; his violins, very arched, with brown—almost black— varnish, of bad quality, are said to have an excellent tone. Du Riez, Nicolas. A French maker. In a bass-viol was the label: ” Nicolas Du Riez a Abbeville, 1663.”
