EMILIANI, Francesco b. c.1680 Bologna, died 1736 Rome Italy. Worked on via del Governo Vecchio, Rome. Persisted with a hybrid Amati/Stainer model of slightly diminished scale, but beautifully made and very Italianate, with fine soft golden oil varnish. Very neat edgework and purfling. Arching not in any way exaggerated. Soundholes slender and upright, recalling Rogeri. Not prolific, but rare cellos are especially desirable concert instruments. Franciscus Emilianis Roma Franciscus de Emilianis fecit / Roma anno Dei 172..
