Maker Overview

Walter Richard Feiler (1906–1989) was a German violin maker from Bad Brambach, Saxony. Trained by his father, Richard Feiler, he qualified as a master violin maker in 1938. Over the course of his career, he produced around 680 instruments, with a particular focus on violas. His work was noted for its craftsmanship, use of seasoned tonewood, and individually prepared varnishes. In 1959, one of his violas received a silver medal at an international violin-making competition in Ascoli Piceno, Italy. Feiler was a member of the Markneukirchen instrument-making cooperative (Migma) from 1950 until 1988, the year he retired. He remained based in Bad Brambach throughout his life and died there in 1989.
