François Xavier Tourte (1748–1835) and his elder brother Nicolas Léonard Tourte (1746–c.1807) were French bow makers active in Paris and sons of Nicolas Pierre Tourte.

Life
The brothers worked together from the 1770s before pursuing largely separate careers. Nicolas Léonard was an important early specialist bow maker, while François Xavier became the most influential figure in the development of the modern classical bow, establishing its characteristic length, camber, balance and frog construction. Their work laid the foundation for the great French bow-making tradition of the 19th century.
