GEORGE, Carl H. Born 1882 Hamburg Germany, died 1950 Evanston, Illinois USA. Migrated with his family to Toronto, Canada 1886; moved to Chicago, USA 1896. Apprenticed to Gustave Ferron. Later established with Franz Wagner as Wagner & George 1899-1945. The business was subsequently taken over by Hermann Bischofsberger. Credited with 400 violins and 30 cellos, generally on a personal model derived from classical outlines. Bows branded: WAGNER & GEORGE [Wenberg]
