Maker Overview
Fabrice Girardin is a Swiss master violin maker, restorer, and expert based in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Trained in Brienz and later working with established luthiers, he qualified as a master in 1979. He has served in professional associations, including as president of the Swiss Association of Luthiers, and has acted as an expert for insurance companies. Girardin is recognized internationally for his expertise in restoring and authenticating fine Italian instruments, combining traditional methods with scientific tools such as dendrochronology. He maintains a large photographic archive of historic instruments and has been responsible for significant discoveries, including the identification of a rare Zosimo Bergonzi violin in 2013. Since 2015, he has run his own company, providing restoration and appraisal services.
