GISALBERTI, Andrea first half of 18th century, Worked Parma & Bozzola Italy. Very coarse work. Uneven deeply rounded ‘c’ bouts and projecting corners. Edges very broad. Extended soundholes with paddle-like lower wings. Surprisingly delicate scroll with large eye and heavy pegbox. Speculations published by Horace Petherick have caused much misunderstanding. In his work on Guarneri del Gesù (London, 1906) he conflates Gisalberti with Santa Ballarini of Rome, and suggests that he was the teacher of del Gesù. There is no evidence whatsoever for any of these ideas, which are repeated in Vannes, Henley, et al. Andreas Gisalberti / Cremonesis / fecit in Bozzolo, 1716 Io Andreas Gisalberti / in Rimini. 1717 Andreas Gisalberti fecit Parmae / Anno salutis 1721
