John Dilworth+
GUADAGNINI, Felice Vittorio Born 1811, died 1839 Turin Italy. Son Carlo Guadagnini, above and pupil of Gaetano (II), below. May have worked with D’Espine. Despite his short life, he holds considerable responsibility for returning the Guadagnini workshop to violin making which in the previous generation had focussed on guitars. Work, although rare, showing many mannerisms of Giovanni Battista, with red- or golden-brown varnish. Felix Guadangini nepos Joan. Bapt. / fecit Taurini, anno Domini 1836

Son of Carlo Guadagnini. A maker in Turin about 1835. His work was excellent, he made good useful instruments, with well-cut scroll, but the varnish hard and cold.

Vater, seine Violinen haben grossen Ton und sind sauber gearbeitet, auch die
Schnecke ist tadellos, nur der Lack — oft von rothbrauner Farbe — lässt zu
wünschen übrig. Bessere Arbeiten von ihm werden schon jetzt mit 1000 bis
1500 Mk. bezahlt.
