HAMMA, Walter Born 1916, died 1988 Stuttgart Germany. Son and successor of Fridolin Hamma (I), above. Trained at Mittenwald under Aschauer, 1933-1935. Worked for Ferdinand Jaura in Munich and Caressa & Français in Paris. Took over the Hamma firm on the retirement of his father in 1959 and expanded its business and reputation. On his retirement in 1982 the company finally closed. President of the International Violin and Bow Making Society 1963-1965. Author of Geigenbauer Der Deutschen Schule (Tutzing, 1986) and Meister Italienischer Geigenbaukunst (London, 1964).
