Biographies

John Dilworth

HILL, Lockey Born 1756, Worked London, UK, died 1796 Fourth son and pupil of Joseph Hill (I), above. He worked in Cheapside c.1774-1777, Shoreditch c.1778, and Islington from c.1780. In 1795 he was arrested and tried for horse stealing, a capital offence. He was found guilty and hanged. Worked in a slightly coarser manner than his father, supplying Stainer and Amati modelled instruments to the London trade. Many of his instruments are branded by Longman & Co. or Longman & Broderip.
