HORVATH, Julius D. Worked circa. 1860-1925 New York USA. Born in Hungary. Active in New York from c.1860. Worked in Providence, Rhode Island, then in Philadelphia up to 1908, finally re-established in New York City 1920. Imported prefabricated instruments ‘in the white’, regraduated them, and applied his own varnish. The red-coloured varnish was based on a special wood filler, but has a tendency to craze. Sold under the name ‘Philamona’. Published a pamphlet titled Violin Facts and Fancies. Philomena / Julius D. Horvath / 1861 Madison Avenue, N. Y.
