HUME, Andrew (Alexander) Born 1864 Lochfoot, Dumfries, Scotland, died 1941 London UK. Self-taught musician and violin maker, active in Dumfries, then in Peterborough, c.1915-1916, and finally at 34 Great Portland Street, London. Almost certainly relied on imported factory made instruments which he adjusted and labelled. Made several spurious claims in trade advertisements to have studied at the Royal Academy of Music and in violin schools in Germany and Bohemia.
