Er kam »aus dem königl. sächsischen Vogtlande« als Gehilfe nach Lübeck und heirathete am 30. Mai 1816 die Wittwe des Instrumentenmachers Kalies geb. Behrotter (geb. 1779, † 1828). Er war handwerksmässig tüchtig und seine Geigen klingen gut, wenn auch etwas scharf. Der Lack ist dunkel, oft fast schwarz.
