Amati Team

Japanese-American luthier celebrated for his innovative and finely crafted violas and violins. Born in Maebashi, Japan in 1945, he began his instrument-making career under Soroku Murata in Tokyo and continued his training in Mittenwald, Germany, where he earned a Journeyman’s diploma with honors. In 1977, he established his workshop in Pennsylvania, USA, where he has produced over 380 instruments, many of which are highly sought after by professional musicians worldwide.

Iizuka is especially known for his pioneering viola designs, including the ergonomically enhanced “Rubenesque” model, which blends acoustic excellence with player comfort. His instruments are distinguished by their powerful tone, rich character, and elegant craftsmanship. In addition to his international clientele, Iizuka has earned high praise from esteemed violists and has contributed significantly to the evolution of modern viola making.
