LECCHI, Giuseppe Bernardo Born 1895 Felizzano, died 1967 Genoa Italy. One of the premier 20th century Italian makers. Pupil and assistant of Cesare Candi from 1923. Established independently in Genoa from 1933. Appointed curator of the Paganini’s del Gesù ‘Cannon’ violin 1948. Classical violin models, made using the external mould and continuous linings preferred by Candi. Also made bows, guitars on the Guadagnini model, and several fine viola d’amores. Fine orange-red varnish, though variable in consistency. Many prizes and medals: gold medal at Liège 1928, Rome 1933, Florence 1935, Cremona 1937, and Pegli 1971.
