Maker Overview

Life

He trained under his father, Johann Neuner, and later worked in Munich, Vienna, and for six years with J. B. Vuillaume in Paris. In 1867 he established a workshop in Berlin before returning to Mittenwald, where he took over the firm Neuner & Hornsteiner. Appointed maker to the Bavarian Royal Family, he produced highly regarded violins and cellos, often after Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati and Maggini models. He also made bows and exhibited internationally.
