John Dilworth

MARCUCCI, Custode Born 1865, Worked from 1874 S. Agata, Ravenna, died 1951 Lugo di Romagna Italy. Worked initially as a farmer and cooper. Trained at the Institute of Art in Bottajo. Established in San Agata, Ravenna. Prolific maker working alone but credited with over 300 violins, 10 violas, 600 cellos, and 49 double basses. Used a wide variety of models. Good workmanship with dark red varnish. Slightly lighter-toned and more transparent varnish introduced c.1900.
