Maker Overview
Life
Italian violin-making workshop of Rimini. Founded by Marino Capicchioni (1895–1977), one of the most important Italian makers of the twentieth century, and continued by his son Mario Capicchioni (1926–1977). Marino established his workshop in Rimini in 1929 and developed a distinctive personal style influenced by Stradivari, Guarneri del Gesù and other classical Italian makers. His mature instruments are recognised for refined workmanship, strong modelling, fine materials and excellent tonal qualities. From the 1940s, Mario worked alongside his father and later continued the family tradition. Instruments bearing the Capicchioni name are highly regarded examples of modern Italian violin making.
