John Dilworth

MARTINO, Giuseppe b.Messina Italy, died 1970 Boston, Massachusetts USA. Emigrated to the USA in 1915. Employed by O. H. Bryant in Boston. His work at this time carried Bryant’s label. From 1919 worked for Elias Howe. Established independently 1921-1928. Worked for the Musician’s Supply Co. 1928-1935, then for Peate’s Music House in Ithaca, New York 1935-1940. Employed by Chittalini in New York City 1940. Returned to Boston, working 1958-1970 at the Boston String Instrument Co. Chiefly occupied with repair work but completed more than 100 violins and a few violas and cellos. Stradivari model with shaded varnish. [Wenberg]
