John Dilworth
MELLING Worked circa. 1740-1780 Paris France. Originally from Alsace according to Vannes. Worked in Paris at the sign ‘A la belle Vielleuse’ in the rue Froidmanteau 1753, later in rue St-Thomas-du-Louvre, and from 1770 in rue des Orties. Violins and small cellos in the style of Castagneri. Elegant work with fine golden-yellow varnish. Scrolls feature a scallop shell incorporated into the fluting of the pegbox. Also made plucked instruments.
